What is BU Boxes all about?
BU Boxes was founded with the idea that students have enough to worry about without the added headache of finding summer storage. Worrying about where, when, and how to store your stuff is a concern for many students at a time when finals are in full swing. BU Boxes eliminates this hardship. Students are at school to learn, not to worry about storage.
Why don't I just get a few people to share a storage room with me?
BU Boxes does all the work for you. Let's say you do the work to get four or five friends to share a room with you. Good thinking, but BU Boxes is able to do that using the largest storage rooms available, sharing not only the room with those four or five people but also your entire school. So that means we are able to provide everything for you at that same price. Would your friends deliver boxes, pick up your storage items, and deliver everything right back to you the following year? Probably not.
Why does BU Boxes need my e-mail address and cell phone number?
BU Boxes does the majority of its communication with its customers via e-mail and texting. It is extremely important to read the e-mails or texts BU Boxes sends you since they will contain important information. E-mail addresses and phone numbers are kept confidential and not given out or sold to anyone. It is important to check your emails before and during the summer break for important information from BU Boxes. If you do not have an e-mail address or do not regularly check your e-mails, it is the customer's responsibility to be aware of important dates and information. We recommend you call BU Boxes at 607-644-1044 if you don't have computer access or need information.

What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover) as well as personal checks backed up by a credit card. Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash. BU Bucks is coming soon.
When is payment due?
BU Boxes does not charge your credit card until approximately one week prior to the boxes drop-off date.
How much will it cost?
We price our storage based on the number of items and boxes you store with us for one storage term. Please visit our pricing page.
Can I store items other than boxes?
Yes, we can store almost anything except a vehicle, sleep sofas and a few other items. Plastic containers are no problem the way they are, and you can fill them with your possessions. Bicycles, skies/snowboards, lamps, rugs etc. not a problem. Particleboard furniture must be broken down or we will not be responsible if it is damaged. We do not store and are not responsible for lightbulbs, candles, money, cosmetics or liquid laundry detergent. Where are my possessions stored?
Your items are stored in a secure, climate-controlled warehouse in Johnson City, NY. All of your possessions are safe, secure, and insured.
Is your warehouse climate controlled?
YES! Climate-controlled means that the storage facility maintains a safe, even temperature at all times and seasons. Climate-controlled does not mean that the warehouse is air-conditioned.
When do I get my packing materials?
Your packing materials will be delivered either on our typical materials delivery day, occurring usually during one of the study days prior to your first final. Late signups will expect their materials delivery usually one of two days after finals have begun, you will receive an email confirmation verifying your materials delivery day. Please see our updated delivery schedule posted on our web site.
What happens if I miss the packing materials delivery day?
If you miss delivery or sign up after we have delivered materials at BU, then please call our office at 607-644-1044 to make arrangements. BU Boxes can still provide you with our shipping and storage services.
What do your storage and shipping prices include?
Our storage prices include pick -up at your residence on campus, storage in a climate-controlled warehouse for the summer break or semester, delivery of your storage at your residence on campus the following fall or semester, and boxes, tape, packaging instructions, labels and BU Boxes marker. All prices are per semester. BU Boxes bills per a four-month semester; our semesters are summer, fall, and spring. There is a small fee for alternative pick-up and/or delivery date requests.
Is there a weight limit on the boxes?
Yes, we ask you do not over stuff your boxes, please keep them under 50lbs. If you can't lift them chances are we can't either.
What if I live off campus or am going to live off campus?
BU Boxes can accommodate those who currently live or will live off campus.
What if I can not be there when you pick up my stuff?
No worries, you can have a roommate or close friend sign away your stuff as long as you trust them with your money and your stuff. Someone needs to sign at the time of pickup and that person will be the one responsible. We will first be in contact with you before any other people are allowed to sign for your items. We cannot leave your storage items at the front desk of any on-campus residence hall. They will not accept them, so you have to be there.
How do I properly pack my belongings for storage?
We provide you with packaging instructions when we give you your boxes or you can download our Storage Packaging Instructions in PDF format now. We ask that you label all sides and the top of your boxes with your name and order number. When you label your items, please use the marker only; pen and pencil are unacceptable! We also want you to securely tape all boxes (especially the bottoms) as well as plastic containers. All heavy items are to go into book boxes; lighter items should go in the larger boxes. If you store computers or electronic items, be sure to use the original packaging if you have it. BU Boxes sells packing material if you need it. Packaging material is extremely important for the safe storage of electronic items. Please see the packaging instructions for more packaging information.
Can I pull my belongings out of storage early?
Yes you can, but you must come to the warehouse and pick them up. We ask that you set this up a week ahead of time.
Can I store my belongings for a longer period of time if I go abroad or take a semester off?
Yes, this is not a problem. You will be charged the same price for each semester stored. Customers are required to pay for extra storage at the beginning of each new storage semester. Your belongings will be delivered to you whenever you return.
What about coverage?
Yes, each box is automatically covered for up to $100. Additional coverage can also be purchased. Rates are $1.50 for every $100 of declared value of storage per semester.
